Volvo Ocean Race - Números comprovam etapa histórica no Brasil

A Volvo Ocean Race desembarcou no Brasil e as previsões se concretizaram: festa e carinho do público de Itajaí (SC), Vila da Regata lotada e velejadores cansados e sedentos por comida e banho quente após uma prova longa e decidida nos quilômetros finais. Mais emoção prevista para terça-feira com a chegada do Team SCA, barco 100% feminino.



A maior regata do mundo parou na cidade catarinense pela segunda vez e, só no primeiro fim de semana do megaevento esportivo, quase 70 mil pessoas foram assistir a chegada dos barcos, incluindo nos molhes de Itajaí e Navegantes. A previsão é que até o dia 19 de abril - data da largada para Newport - mais de 300 mil pessoas se envolvam com a regata.

Depois de 12 mil quilômetros pelos mares do Sul, Cabo Horn e icebergs, os atletas ficaram impressionados com a recepção dos brasileiros. Porém, quem ganhou mais atenção foi o catarinense André 'Bochecha' Fonseca, que integra o MAPFRE, segundo colocado na quinta etapa. 'Foi uma das maiores emoções que senti. Foi indescritível'.



O vencedor foi da etapa foi Abu Dhabi, que lidera a competição no geral. A equipe cruzou a linha de chegada neste domingo (5). Menos de uma hora depois apareceram MAPFRE, Team Alvimedica e Team Brunel. 'Foi a melhor etapa de todas. Apesar de muitos problemas com pequenas quebras, foi a perna que mais me diverti', Bouwe Bekking, comandante do Team Brunel.
