2014 - 15 Volvo Ocean Race - En ce moment, c’est Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing qui a pris les commandes mais Ian Walker sait combien ce leadership est fragile. Après plus de 6 000 milles à travers le Pacifique Sud, son avance n’est que de 5 milles sur Mapfre, de 9 sur Team Alvimedica et de 14 par rapport à Team Brunel. Ils sont donc quatre à jouer la gagne et, ces dernières heures, trois changements de leader ont été observés, Mapfre et Team Alvimedica ayant brièvement pris les commandes.



Même si le vent s’est atténué ces dernières heures, les leaders progressent toujours au près, dans du vent fort (plus de 20 nœuds) et la casse matérielle fait plus que jamais partie des paramètres à prendre en compte comme l’explique Iker Martinez: “Nous avons eu une nuit complètement dingue. J’espère que c’est la dernière comme ça sur l’étape. Le vent est monté et nous étions à 20 nœuds face au vague. J’ai cru que tout allait exploser.”



Une seule certitude, parmi les bateaux encore en course, seul Team SCA est immunisé contre un podium. Victime de plusieurs problèmes de voile dans le Pacifique Sud, l’équipage féminin évolue maintenant au large de l’Argentine avec un retard de 700 milles (1400 km environ). Elles devraient arriver à Itajaí lundi ou mardi prochain et attendent l’arrivée avec impatience. “Nous avons l’impression d’être dans une machine à laver” annonce Anne-Lena Elled, la reporter embarquée.



Toujours plus au sud, Dongfeng Race Team a repris la mer. Le bateau franco-chinois a quitté Ushuaia cette nuit et a commencé son long convoyage vers Itajaí. C’est l’équipe technique, ainsi que deux marins chinois, qui sont en charge de ce périple. Le séjour au Chili n’a pas été de tout repos pour les membres du team qui ont eu à remettre le bateau en état dans des conditions précaires, parfois sous la neige. Ils ont cependant pu compter sur la solidarité de leurs concurrents puisque des membres de l’équipe technique de Mapfre sont venus leur prêter main forte.
