Volvo Ocean Race - Il faut se pincer pour le croire mais Dongfeng Race Team vient de gagner quatre places en moins… d’une heure. Alors qu’ils évoluaient en queue de peloton jusqu’à ce matin, avec un retard de près de 24 milles sur le leader, Caudrelier et ses hommes sont parvenus à renverser la vapeur grâce à une trajectoire unique.



Une fois n’est pas coutume, les conditions actuelles dans le Pacifique Sud, clémentes pour la saison, se sont révélées favorables pour les retardataires en raison d’un effet de compression. L’arrivée d’un front par l’arrière a en effet bénéficié aux deux derniers bateaux : Dongfeng et Team SCA. En prenant la tête, les franco-chinois sont les grands vainqueurs mais les filles du bateau rose réalisent elles aussi une très belle opération avec un gain de près de 100 milles!



Partie d’Auckland il y a 8 jours, la flotte évolue dans le Pacifique Sud et flirte avec la zone d’exclusion, cet espace interdit en raison du risque d’y trouver des icebergs. La nuit dernière, dans des vents faibles, les quatre bateaux de tête se sont livrés à une bataille d’empannage à proximité de cette zone. Dans des vents inhabituellement faibles dans cette région du globe, les quatre ont fait cap au nord pour toucher un vent plus consistant. Arrivés derrière, Caudrelier et ses hommes ont fait le choix de la simplicité. Bénéficiant d’une bascule de 60°, ils ont pu suivre la route la plus courte, et allonger la foulée en bénéficiant d’un vent plus fort. Au dernier classement, toute la flotte s’est positionnée dans le tableau arrière des Français et la bataille de virement se poursuit avec toujours plus d'intensité. Des conditions plus musclées (30 nœuds de Sud Est) sont attendues dans les prochains jours. Selon les estimations, la flotte doit passer le Cap Horn en fin de week end.
