Volvo Ocean Race - H.R.H. Carl-Philip of Sweden atop 30-metre mast

Prince Carl Philip is a patron of the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, and had sailed the previous day with Swedish-backed entry Team SCA during the in-port race. On Sunday he boarded Chinese – French challenger Dongfeng Race Team to take part in the Pro-Am event – and took the opportunity to grab a once in a lifetime shot with a GoPro camera.

After climbing the mast in a safety harness, Prince Carl Philip wrote a message for the sailors at the top. When asked what the message was, the prince was refused to divulge the secret. One of his aides would only say 'You’ll have to find out – it’s a message only for the brave,' he laughed. 'You have to get up there to read it for yourself.'

The Prince was in the company of Swedish compatriot Martin Strömberg, the only Swedish sailor competing in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 who is part of Dongfeng’s sailing team.

The Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15's first leg starts in one week on October 11th when the boats will leave on the first leg of the race taking them to Cape Town. It will visit nine other ports before concluding in Gothenburg on June 27th, 2015.
