Volvo Ocean Race - Barco chinês abandona etapa até o Brasil

O barco Dongfeng Race Team quebrou o mastro na manhã da última segunda-feira (30) e foi obrigado a abandonar a quinta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race, entre a Nova Zelândia e o Brasil. A equipe até cogitou ir para Ushuaia para arrumar o problema e retomar a regata, mas a decisão foi seguir viagem até Itajaí com o motor ligado. Com isso, o time chinês soma 8 pontos, prejudicando e muito sua classificação geral. 'Se houvesse alguma outra maneira oportuna e eficaz para se juntar à flotilha e chegar ao Brasil, eu sem dúvida teria tentado', disse o comandante Charles Caudrelier.



Caso o Dongfeng escolhesse o reparo completo em Ushuaia, o atraso para chegar em Itajaí seria de mais de duas semanas. 'A viagem até o Brasil demoraria muito e só teríamos dois dias apenas para preparar o barco para a sexta etapa até Newport', sentenciou Charles Caudrelier.



O incidente ocorreu faltando 240 milhas náuticas para a aproximação ao Cabo Horn, no início da madrugada. Felizmente, ninguém se machucou e não há nenhum risco à tripulação. O mastro quebrou de 4 a 5 metros, o mesmo tamanho de um carro popular.

Chegada em Itajaí

Os outros barcos que seguem na disputa pela quinta etapa aceleram rumo a Itajaí. A liderança nesta quarta-feira (1º) é do Abu Dhabi, seguido por Team Alvimedica, MAPFRE e Team Brunel. A diferença segue pequena entre eles e a batalha será decidida nos metros finais, já na aproximação a Santa Catarina. A previsão de chegada atualizada é neste domingo (5).
