2014 - 15 Volvo Ocean Race - Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (Ian Walker / GBR) possède un avantage de sept points avant l’étape numéro 6 de la Volvo Ocean Race qui quitte Itajai demain. Pourtant, le team émirati n’est pas assuré de la victoire.

Comme l’a expliqué le skipper en conférence de presse, il reste encore quatre étapes à disputer et beaucoup de points à prendre avant la fin de la course. “La dernière étape a été excellente pour nous. Nous avons gagné l’étape et Dongfeng Race a démâté ce qui a changé le leaderboard” explique t’il. “Cette étape a aussi montré combien il était facile de perdre beaucoup de points. Cela aurait pu arriver à n’importe qui.”



Son adversaire, Bouwe Bekking (Team Brunel) a d’ailleurs rappelé que sur la dernière édition, Team Telefonica était en tête avec le même avantage avant de quitter le Brésil. Ils avaient finalement terminé 4ème de la Volvo Ocean Race. “Nous savons par expérience que la course commence très souvent ici, au Brésil. Dans ce sens, cela met beaucoup de pression sur les épaules d’Abu Dhabi.”

Caudrelier, pour sa part, marche dans les traces de son mentor, Franck Cammas, vainqueur de la dernière édition à bord de Groupama. Eux aussi avaient cassé leur mât avant de remporter l’épreuve. “Nous gardons en tête que tout peut arriver et que notre objectif, au début de la course était de faire un podium” rappelle Caudrelier.

L’équipage féminin de Team SCA se montrait déçu que le jury ne les ait pas autorisées à changer une voile endommagée lors de l’étape précédente. Elles doivent donc utiliser le “code zéro fractionné” (FRO) qu’elles ont réparé. “Nous n’avons pas pu utiliser ce code zéro pendant les 2/3 de l’étape 5, ça a eu un impact important sur le résultat” explique Sam Davies.

Aujourd’hui en fin d’après-midi, les concurrents participeront à l’In-Port Race. Le départ de l’étape sera donné demain.
