Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar - Ready to welcome the Olympic Sailing

by trofeoprincesasofia.org on 4 Mar 2015
The 46th edition - Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía Martinez Studio / Sofia http://www.trofeoprincesasofia.org/
The countdown to the 46th edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar has begun in the bay of Palma from 28th March to 4th April. With less than a month to go until the start of the event, the regatta has already around 700 teams (667) from 59 nations representing the five continents.

The Organisers, who work non-stop to have everything ready, are very satisfied. With entries still open and increasing day by day and a new main collaborator, Iberostar, the 46th edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia beats again all records, confirming it is the sailors’ event.

The regatta, a qualifier event for ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyères, is open to all the Olympic Classes that will be at the Rio 2016 Olympics: Finn,470 M & F, 49er, 49er FX, Laser, Laser Radial, RS:X M & W and Nacra 17 with the Laser and Laser Radial fleets registering the higher number of entries at this moment.

The Olympic Classes will be joined by Paralympic Class 2.4mR as well as the Kiteboarding – for the first time in Palma – and the Dragon Class, the Class which marked the starting point of the Trofeo Sofia.

As in previous editions, some International teams that will take part in the regatta are already training in the bay of Palma before the start of the European Sailing season. The mild weather conditions, the hotel infrastructure and the good flight network with Europe make of the Island the ideal winter training venue.

Within this training period, a new edition of the Arenal Training Camps Trophy will be held from 12th to 15th March. The ATC Trophy, which started around ten years ago, gains more and more interest every year as it is quality training event offering teams the unique opportunity to test and change equipment and allowing coaches to enter the racing course, providing the perfect warm up for the Trofeo Sofia.

The Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar marks the start of the European racing calendar. Furthermore, this pre-Olympic year, the regatta becomes one of the major events of the calendar for teams heading to the 2016 Rio Games to measure their strengths.

The Organisers of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia are Club Nàutic s'Arenal, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, Real Club Náutico de Palma and Federación Balear de Vela.
