Peter Burling and Blair Tuke (NZL), 49ers winners in the 46 Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar, are racing in many events throughout the year in order to keep their level at the top. “It is a good way to see the strong points of the other teams and what we have to fix. It is a great motivation to keep working and try to be better.” explains Burling.

Burling and Tuke are in a peak of their sailing career, “I like to think that we have many strength and not so many weaknesses. We are working really hard and are consistent with our results.” Five races won in the Trofeo Sofia Iberostar is a proof of their regularity and success.

Despite the Olympic qualification of New-Zealand in the 49er competition in Rio 16, the representatives are not yet decided. “It was great to see the impact of our London Silver medal in New-Zealand and what it meant for the country. This is a great motivation for us to go bring back Gold from Rio!”

About his comeback to America’s Cup as skipper, Peter Burling recognizes that “it is a great honor to have been chosen for this role and the importance for the team to have onboard a sailor that is competing as much as I do.”

Burling admits that at the moment there is lots of pressure on the New-Zealand team. “Each time we are under pressure we learn how to adapt and progress and it is each time easier. We enjoy it.”
