Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s Sydney Harbour Regatta is set to get underway at 11.30am on Saturday, 9th March with the Premier Class Ocean Passage, featuring Grant Wharington’s lengthened Wild Thing from Queensland, which will make its debut as a 100 foot super maxi.

All other classes start from midday on the Harbour, spread from the Harbour Bridge to the Sound off Middle Harbour, with windward/leeward racing in the Premier IRC class to take place just outside Sydney Heads on the Manly or Macquarie Circles - conditions to decide.

Over 220 boats racing in 26 classes on 10 course areas, ranging from the IRC, to PHS, sports boats, Etchells, Historic 18 footers, Dragons, Super 30’s, Melges 24 and 32, Flying Tigers, Cavaliers, Classic, Adams 10, and the Sydney 38 One-Design class, which is conducting its National Championship.

Principal Race Officer, Denis Thompson said the fleets could expect light easterly winds that should peak at 12 knots around 3.00pm.

'It’s typical conditions for this time of year; sick easterlies,' Thompson said. 'With upward of 220 boats, we’re all looking forward to a good regatta – it will be buzzing with so many people out there.

'The weekend will be a great one for spectators too, with most the racing happening on the main part of the Harbour.'
