Swan Transatlantic Challenge 2009 - Tie at the top

Swan 70 Stay Calm owned by Stuart Robinson, and Swan 48 Amoress 2 owned by Mats Gustafsson, have victoriously finished the 2,700 nautical mile race from Las Palmas to St Lucia winning the 2009 Swan Transatlantic Challenge in a tie.

Both Stay Calm and Amoress 2 won their classes which produced the tie between both yachts in the Swan Transatlantic Challenge. Swan 40 Marinara, raced by owner Edward Dolman claimed a proud second with Graham Deegan’s Swan 48 Akarana taking third place. All yachts excelled in the consistent tradewinds which enabled all yachts to finish in quicker than anticipated times.

The 2009 Swan Transatlantic Challenge has been an immense success with 18 entries successfully completing the race. The esteemed silver Asprey trophy will be awarded to both owners in the New Year at a ceremony at the prestigious Asprey store in London.

A delighted Mats Gustafsson commented, ‘We had a fantastic sail across with steady winds. We sailed on the right track with all the sails up and the boat performed very well. We are also looking forward to participating in the BVI Rendezvous in March’.

We wish to congratulate all 18 of the competing Swan owners and their crews for their success in the 2009 ARC and Swan Transatlantic Challenge and we look forward to their participation in the 2010 Swan Challenge Series.
