Sail Canada announces members of 2013 Canadian Sailing Team

Sail Canada announced the members of the 2013 Canadian Sailing Team. Miami ISAF World Cup event marked the final opportunity Canadian Sailing Team for team qualification in January. This year’s lineup includes of many familiar faces including 2012 Olympians Zac Plavsic, Nikola Girke, David Wright, Greg Douglas, Danielle Dube and Luke Ramsay.
Our Paralympic team are representing in full force this year, including 2008 Gold medallist Paul Tingley, SKUD bronze medallists John McRoberts /Stacie Louttit and London Paralympians Bruce Millar,Scott Lutes and Logan Campbell. There are nine new team members added to the roster this year including three new skiff teams.
Team Captain Paul Tingley is re-energized after making a move to the Sonar class with teammates Lutes and Campbell. Tingley says 'The Canadian team has a ton of talent with dedicated sailors laying the ground work for Rio. We’re ready to take on 2013 and beyond.'
Vice-Captain Greg Douglas set the stage at his first World Cup event of the year with a silver medal performance in the Finn. 'I would like to thank Sail Canada for selecting me as vice-team captain. I look forward to a great year and working hard as a team. Let’s show the world what we can do!'
This year, the Canadian team structure has been tightened up in an effort to create sustainable performance and increased depth within the team.
The Sail Canada High Performance Director Ken Dool adds, '2013 marks the start of a brand new quadrennial and we are looking forward to the hard work and commitment of this team as we collectively build for success in Rio.' Stay tuned as these sailors hit the international stage at world championships and world cup events over the next few months!
