Rollei Windsurf Cup on the horizon

by International Windsurfing Association on 11 Apr 2014
For over 15 years, the German agency Choppy Water has successfully organized windsurfing events in Germany. The events have a great reputation for the excellent performance of the crew on the water and the high level of organization at the beach. The two key events on Sylt invite over 100.000 spectators to the beach and the setup is on the same level as the biggest World Cups. Besides the competition itself, the competitors and spectators can experience a great event and party program.

But the best is: Competitors from foreign countries are not only allowed, but very welcome at all events of the Rollei Windsurf Cup. For many years, Germany has been an attractive playground for competitors from the neighbouring countries and even all over the World. This international participation creates a unique open and free atmosphere.

The continuous exchange with the international competition scene helps to keep the level of the German competitors and organization on a high level. The IFCA Slalom World Champion title of Bernd Flessner in 2009 and the double victory of Gunar Asmussen and Vincent Langer at the IFCA Slalom Worlds on Sylt last year proved that Germany is on a good track.

For 2014, Choppy Water is again presenting a selection of events that are very interesting for international riders: The season kicks off with the 'Rollei Surf and SUP Opening Fehmarn' from May 1st-4th. Some top riders may be on the Azores for the IFCA and FW Worlds, but those riders who are looking for a good chance to tune in for their own national or other international events can find the perfect platform at this regatta.

The end of May brings a real highlight: From May 27th to June 1st, the 'Funboard Racing Championships' will take place at the Rollei Summer Opening on Sylt. Last year the event had over 80,000 spectators. The event offers a total prize money of € 10.000,- for the combined results of the disciplines Formula Windsurfing and Slalom. A detailed information about this event will follow soon. But competitors who are active in both disciplines should definitely mark this regatta in their calendar.

Just one week later at the Whitsun Weekend, the Rollei Windsurf Cup will take place on the infamous party island of Norderney. The North Sea offers great conditions. For riders from the Benelux countries this is just a small jump over the border and for everybody who is interested in a great party weekend besides the windsurfing competition, this is definitely the place to be from June 6th-9th.

At the beginning of July, the Rollei Windsurf Cup returns to Fehmarn, Germany's number one windsurfing island. From July 4th-6th the event will be staged at the 'Sudstrand' (South Beach) of the island. This is the first holiday weekend in Germany and thousands of people will be heading for the beaches to enjoy the summer.

From Fehmarn the Rollei Windsurf Cup head directly onwards to the beautiful seaside village of Kuhlungsborn on the East German Baltic coast. Not too far from the Polish border, this event from July 11th-13th could be an interesting option especially for riders from Poland and the Baltic countries.

At the end of the month the International German Windsurfing Championships will take place at the legendary Volvo Surf Cup on Sylt. From July 22nd-27th, Germany's windsurfing elite will be challenged by riders from all over Europe to fight for the German title. With over 120,000 spectators, the Volvo Surf Cup is the biggest of the Choppy Water events.

International riders who would like to participate in selected events or even in the whole tour can simply contact Choppy Water (contact details below). The agency is ready to help competitors as much as possible to ensure that the events will be a memorable experience in Germany. As a first step, all NoRs will be in a bi-lingual (English and German language) Event website
