QantasLink Brisbane to Gladstone - Perseverance may yet pay off

Alive looks likely to take home most of the silverware - QantasLink Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race Julie Geldard VidPicPro.com
For the QantasLink Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race fleet it has been a frustrating day, with some of the competitors going faster backwards than forwards. The mill pond conditions have resulted in half the fleet losing patience and turning on the iron headsail in an effort to reach Gladstone for the after race party.
However, the last laugh may yet be with the competitors who persevered. The wind has finally filled in and is propelling the remaining competitors towards Gladstone at the same rate as those who have retired.
Even better, with so many retirements, those who have stuck at it are likely to record some great results in the various divisions and categories. Local boat, Wistari, simply has to finish to take out the Veteran Category as last boat standing and is in a two yacht race for PHRF Division Two honours with Barry Thompson in Bad Habits.
Overall victory in IRC, ORCi and PHRF is still looking likely to go to Alive who finished nearly 24 hours ago but with the breeze filling in, some changes in the standings are still possible although most predict it is for the minor places only.
The presentation ceremony has been moved from its normal Sunday afternoon slot to Easter Monday at 2pm.
