Olympic Mixed Multihull Evaluation invitation

by Nahid and Roland Gaebler on 16 Jan 2012
Olympic Mixed Multihull Evaluation Santander Team Gaebler
Olympic Mixed Multihull Evaluation is being held in Santander, Spain, from 17th to 25th March 2012. Sailors from all classes are welcome to test the catamarans.

Star class sailors and Match Race women, who lost their boats for 2016 Olympics, have a new chance to start an Olympic campaign for 2016 with ultra fast catamarans.

We cannot believe that the keelboats went out of the Olympics. They are a very big part of our sport worldwide and they should have continued in the Olympics. A man over 80kg can only sail a Finn dinghy, or stop his Olympic dreams in sailing. Mixed multihull offers new options for keelboat sailors with Olympic ambitions. Also for Match Race women it can be a new experience.

Already we can see many monohull sailors having a phenomenal start in the multihull world. Just look at the top sailors in the AC45 and Extreme Sailing. Superstars like Ben Ainslie went to the top at the Extreme Sailing Series in a very short time. Now he is on the way with his own AC project.

Multihull sailing is a combination of sailing and flying. It’s a pure enjoyment to glide over the waves with double trapeze and gennacker in a high speed mode. It’s one of the nicest sailing experiences you can have. We invite you to come to the Mixed Multihull Evaluation event in Santander!

You can download the application/entry form from the ISAF website or from the Mixed Sailing website. It’s easy to fill out the form and send to your national federation and ISAF.

Mixed sailing on multihulls is more than just flying over the waves. It’s adrenaline and great fun, day by day. Since we are sailing together as a mixed team we triple our media value and sponsors are much more interested.

Multihull sailing, the F1 of summer Olympics, with mixed sailing teams will be the ultimate hit for the media and promotes sailing in a great new style. For us it’s one of the best things we have ever experienced in our life. You should try the same. Make your entry and sail with us in Santander!

Mix your team up in the style you like, from the ultra light 40kg to 60kg persons up to the heavy weights between 90kg and 110kg. Anyone can sail in a mixed team on a multihull.

A 110kg man can sail with a 55kg woman or an average 67.5kg woman can sail with an average 81,8kg man (the actual weight statistics are from Wikipedia and Halls).

With the new flexible carbon mast on a modern multihull you can trim the sails very easily from very flat to full profile. Multihulls have the most modern rigs for high speed sailing. With double trapeze, the weight comes to one point at the mast top so it is not important what position (crew or helm) you have on the multihull. You can mix up the style any way you like.

We welcome you in Santander. It’s on the way to the Palma World Cup and you can reach Santander very easily and cheaply with Ryan Air and other airlines. ISAF offers some free accommodation at the venue. Once in your lifetime you should try to sail a multihull. Now is the chance for you to have a ride on the best catamarans in the world.

Let’s sail and fly together and make your entry a.s.a.p. to your sailing federation and ISAF.
