New Caledonia Match Race starts in low wind

New Caledonia Match Race Christian DUBOIS
Eleven teams engaged in the second New Caledonia Match Race. The event took place in Nouméa New Caledonia.

In attendance were Scott Barnes from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Klad Haushild form the Noosa Yacht and rowing Club, Pierre Pennec from La Rochelle and nine teams from New Caledonia.

Twelve matches today were run in very low and change wind. It was hard for sailors and race the committee but all was very good.

Today and tomorrow, will be the first round robin. Tomorrow night we will know who will be going into the quarter final.

Sweden wins the Nord Stream Race
The Swedes quickly worked out how to get the best out of the ClubSwan 50, the powerful one-design keelboat On the ClubSwan 50 with Sturesson were navigator Jimmy Hellberg, Holger Tidemand, Erik Malmberg, Martin Krite, Axel Munkby, Marcus Höglander, Johan Wikman, Arvid Bild, Julius Hallström and boat captain Giuseppe Filippis. With an average age of 28 years, the Swedes had the second youngest team.

J Class Association and North Sails announce 2018 Kohler Cup
Following the success of the first ever championship, the J Class Association and North Sails announce the 2018 schedule The 2018 Cup will be comprised of a total of four events as opposed to just three in 2017. The other notable difference is for the upcoming year events will be weighted equally, with boats that take part in all four events able to discard their worst result.

Consistency proves king at J/111 World Championships
Berkeley Circle conditions started with a 5-7 knots for first race and topped out in high-teens with puffs into low-20s Wagner’s words proved prophetic, especially once the day’s racing really got cooking. But before teams could tension their rigs, Mother Nature sprung a light-air pop quiz that saw Doug and Jack Jorgensen’s Picosa (USA 120) and Wagner’s Skeleton Key (USA 115) both take great starts, while Martin Roesch’s Velocity (USA 008) and Gorkem Ozcelebi’s Double Digit (USA 94) were deemed over early.

J Class battle for the Kohler Cup – Showdown of the season
Per class rules, all yachts racing are original J Class using the most advanced boat building and equipment technology. While considered Superyachts, at North Sails we think of the J's as a Grand Prix class because the teams are sailing as aggressively as if they were on a TP52.

The Nations Trophy spreads its wings
The current entry list shows seven ClubSwan 50s, eight Swan 45s and five ClubSwan 42s. Germany, the first team confirmed Germany continue to look to be the form team. The country’s best-performing ClubSwan 50, Earlybird, took her class at the Copa del Rey by 13 points from the Italian flagged, Cuordileone.
