Mondiali Byte- Day 2 - Italiani in zona qualifica olimpica per nazioni

Seconda giornata al Mondiale Byte con condizioni classiche dell'Alto Garda: sole e vento da sud sui 12-14 nodi, che ha permesso lo svolgimento di ben quattro prove di giornata, portando a 5 il programma generale. Alla Fraglia Vela Riva i regatanti hanno cominciato ad animare la zona antistante il circolo fin dal mattino, anche se la prima prova era prevista alle 12:30, slittata poi dopo le 13:30 per aspettare il vento da sud, ruotato repentinamente.

In campo maschile dominio dell'ungherese Jonatan Vadnai, già campione del mondo della specialità la scorsa edizione disputata a Newport, USA. Vadnai ha realizzato oggi tre primi e un terzo, ma la cosa che ha impressionato di più è stato il distacco, che in alcune regate ha dato agli avversari. Secondo posto in generale dell'olandese Houtman, ma 21 punti dietro, e terzo il croato Zivanovic. Buoni piazzamenti degli italiani con Umberto Varbaro (LNI Follonica) quinto e il portacolori della Fraglia Vela Riva Vittorio Gallinaro risalito in settima posizione con due bei quarti finali. L'obiettivo dell'Italia comunque è entrare nelle prime sei nazioni, esclusa Ungheria e Croazia già selezionate per guadagnare un posto continentale all'Olimpiade Giovanile.

In campo femminile le olandesi Van Aanholt e Akkerman si spartiscono nell'ordine le prime due posizioni, mentre rimane terza l'italiana Carolina Albano (CV Muggia), con un bel secondo parziale nella penultima prova di giornata. Venerdi 25 aprile partenza prevista alle ore 13:00. Ottimo lavoro in acqua dello staff tecnico e del Comitato di regata che ha portato a termine quattro prove in successione in una bellissima giornata di sole e Classifica Classifica Fraglia Vela Riva
