La Volvo Ocean Race s’élancera mardi, à 21h00 HF

C’est mercredi matin, à 9h00 heure locale (soit mardi à 21h00 en France), que les six concurrents de la Volvo Ocean Race prendront le départ de la 5ème étape.

Cet ultime report était le choix de quatre des six concurrents. « Il y a un changement significatif entre partir mardi après midi et mercredi matin dans des conditions plus faciles et c’était la préférence de la majorité des équipes » résume Knut Frostad, CEO de l’épreuve. Car même si Pam, après avoir ravagé les Vanuatu, a épargné la Nouvelle-Zélande, il reste virulent. Libby Greenhalgh, navigatrice à bord de Team SCA se réjouit de cette décision : « Il n’y a pas beaucoup de marins à avoir navigué près d’un cyclone. En partant mardi, nous aurions eu entre 35 et 40 nœuds et ça, pour une durée de 5 à 7 jours, ce qui ne sera pas le cas avec un départ mercredi. »

Pas de nouvelle ETA

Avec un départ dimanche, les bateaux étaient attendus au Brésil entre le 1er et le 5 avril. Il y a trop d’incertitudes à l’heure actuelle pour établir une ETA. Plus d’informations prochainement.
