Kiel Week - The fastest yacht in Europe sponsored by adidas Sailing

by adidas Sailing Communications Department on 24 Jun 2013
Esimit Sailing Team - Kiel Week 2013 Return Race Esimit Europa/Heinrich Hecht
Skipper Jochen Schümann’s international crew have signed a deal to wear technical clothing supplied exclusively by adidas Sailing, as Esimit Europa’s ambitious 2013 campaign is about to start at Kiel Week.

Since the project was launched in 2010, the 30m Maxi yacht Esimit Europa Two has won every race in which she has competed, and set six course records, the latest here at Kiel two days ago. She is the fastest yacht in Europe, a reputation Schümann’s team is looking to enhance with a busy 2013 season. After Kiel Week, the team moves on to the ÅF Offshore Race in Sweden, Cowes Week and legendary Rolex Fastnet Race in the UK before returning to the Mediterranean Sea.

Skipper of the 30m carbon-fibre Maxi yacht, Esimit Europa Two, Jochen Schümann’s relentless pursuit of excellence has brought him three Olympic gold medals and two victories with Alinghi in the America’s Cup. Never settling for less than the best, Schümann has provided his own feedback and input into the design of the innovative adidas Sailing range. The Esimit crew members will wear and use exclusively adidas products, which are based on the 2013 collection but with an exclusive Esimit colour scheme of white with blue stripes.

Founder of the Esimit Europa project, Igor Simcic, commented: 'We are delighted to welcome adidas Sailing as another strong brand in our partners network. adidas Sailing has drawn on the longstanding values and expertise of one the world’s most famous sporting brands to provide our crew with specifically designed clothing made out of top-performing technologies and materials.'

Thomas Fochler, representing adidas Sailing, paid tribute to the professionalism of the Esimit Sailing Team. 'It’s an outstanding team with a remarkable success story. In 2013 the crew will race Esimit Europa 2 at some of the most high-profile and important yacht races, including the 600-mile Rolex Fastnet Race. Races like these test the crew to the limit, which is why Jochen Schümann demands nothing but the best for his crew of 18 professionals. By entering this partnership, adidas Sailing is having the opportunity to be part of this success.

'This level of success doesn’t happen by chance, it’s founded on a determination to be the best, something that is very dear to us, besides innovation and team work, values that we also share. For us, this cooperation also provides an invaluable endorsement of our debut collection, and an opportunity to get valuable feedback from a group of highly dedicated sailors who will place high demands on their equipment and clothing.

'The Esimit sailors are using apparel from the top of our range - in terms of materials, design and technology - and we’re very confident that it will help the team perform and race at their peak. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Gore for providing the Gore-Tex material in the special colours created exclusively for Esimit Europa. It will surely bring even more glowing success to the team!'

The adidas Sailing Spring Summer collection is now available in selected stores.
