Childhood comrades Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen have raised the bar in the 49er since they teamed up in the class in 2009. The Aussies have been a permanent fixture on podiums and only a second place at the 2012 Semaine Olympique Francaise tarnishes a near perfect record in the nomination period.

On home waters at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championship they turned their slow start around to conquer the Fremantle Doctor and their second 49er World Championship title. They successfully defended their title at the 2012 49er Worlds in Zadar, Croatia which teed them up nicely to take two further regatta wins and the 2011-2012 49er ISAF Sailing World Cup title.

Their run in to the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition had been sublime and having won every regatta sailed in at Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain they were clear favourites for Olympic gold.

Their confident approach continued at London 2012 and a race win on the opening day of the regatta set them on their way and with no race finishes outside of the top ten the competition had been crushed. A hefty blow was dealt to their competitors when they took gold with a race to spare.

Joining Outteridge and Jensen as male nominees for ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2012 are Ben Ainslie (GBR), Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page (AUS), Loick Peyron (FRA) and Tom Slingsby (AUS).

The winners are selected by the ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs), the national governing bodies for sailing around the world. The MNAs are now invited to vote for the male and female nominee they believe most deserves the Award.

The winners will be announced at the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards presentation and dinner, taking place on Tuesday 6 November 2012. The venue for the event is the Mansion House in Dublin, Ireland.

Each winner will be presented with the prestigious ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award Trophy and a distinctive Rolex Outteridge and Jensen WSOY ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards website

Lilley is one of the tallest and heaviest Finn sailors in Rio, but also, at just 23 years old, one of the youngest. RS Championships at Travemunder Woche + Video
Several of the UK travellers had horrendous travelling tales, such as 18 hours to go five miles approaching Dover port. Our RS100 sailor from Australia had actually had a shorter travelling time than some! Hats off to the guys who showed real character and perseverence through such horrible journeys. Once here, everyone relaxed into the 30 degree sunshine and the amazing festival that is Travemunder Woche.
