Have the Volvo Ocean Race at your fingertips

by Volvo Ocean Race on 1 Oct 2014
Volvo Ocean Race fans can now carry the world’s toughest ocean race in their pocket, thanks to the launch of a new official mobile app.

Developed for both iOS and Android systems, the app is available for download from the App Store and Google Play now – and boasts a host of exciting features which will allow users to be closer to the on-water adventure than ever before.

An exclusive rolling digital channel, Life at the Extreme TV, will stream live events from the race’s Alicante HQ and 10 other host ports around the globe, as well as the very best of our videos.

Fans can use the in-built tracker to follow the progress of the fleet with pin-point accuracy, showing updates every 10 seconds during live coverage.

In addition, the introduction of a tailored notifications service means that users need not miss a thing during the nine-month, 38,739 nautical mile marathon.

Alerts include ‘Breaking News’, ‘Live Events’ and ‘Position Reports’, notifying fans of every game-changing move, on-water incident and other race events by email or SMS.

Detailed information on the teams and route provides users with everything they need to know about the faces and places that make this race so special – and the pick of our stories will allow them to experience life behind the sails.

With the seven-strong fleet now stationed in Alicante ahead of the first in-port race on October 4, and the start of Leg 1 to Cape Town one week later, the app will be a welcome tool for fans looking to keep up to date with all the latest happenings of this incredible adventure.

The teams will traverse four oceans and five continents in their quest to win the Volvo Ocean Race, the longest sporting event on the planet, before lining up for the final in-port race in Gothenburg, Sweden, next Click here for the iOS app and here for the Android Volvo Ocean Race
