Finnfare magazine August 2015 edition published

by International Finn Association on 2 Sep 2015 Egor Terpigorev (RUS) is featured on the cover of the August edition of Finnfare, the magazine of the International Finn Class. He was taking part in a Rule 42 clinic held in Valencia before the Finn Silver Cup (Junior World Championship). Though too old to compete in the Silver Cup, he went on to represent Russia at the Aquece Rio Olympic test event in August.

This issue is mainly filled with reports from regattas throughout Europe between April and August. There are two themes to this season so far. One is the dominance of Giles Scott (GBR), who has added wins in Palma, Hyeres and Weymouth to his two-year long wining streak. He didn't sail at the Europeans this year, preferring to focus on preparations in Rio, where he also won, but this issue went to the printers before the test event took place.

The other theme that has been dominant this year is the success of sailors from Team Fantastica. Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic (CRO) won the hotly contested European Championship in his home town of Split, Croatia, in May, while Arkadiy Kistanov (RUS) won the Junior European Championship over the same week. Then a few weeks later their coach at Team Fantastica, Vladimir Krutskikh (RUS), jumped into a Finn and promptly took out the Finn World Masters in Kavala, Greece. It's always reassuring to know that your coach is also capable of winning regattas. He led a Russian 1, 2 in Greece ahead of 202 other Finn masters.

In July the junior fleet, and some others, headed to Valencia for some training and the Silver Cup. The junior fleet goes from strength to strength and it is encouraging to see the emergence of strong junior teams from Argentina, Germany and Denmark, surely the headline makers of the future. However the popular winner was Ondrej Teply (CZE), who was one of many sailors competing who use the Dinghy Academy in Valencia as their training base. Surely there can be no better acknowledgment of the Dinghy Academy's training programme than to have one of its sailors win a major Finn championship.

As well as the classes major events, this issue also covers a small fraction of the incredibly diverse range of events in the class, with national regattas taking place almost constantly throughout the European summer season. There is news on events in France, Germany, Great Britian, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.
