Extreme Sailing Series Act 6 - Realteam quietly ambitious

After a third place overall in Portugal last month, the Swiss professional sailing team is impatient to notch up another podium finish in Wales this weekend at the Cardiff leg of the Extreme Sailing Series from 23-26 August.

Swiss team skipper, Jérôme Clerc, will helm Realteam for Act 6 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Cardiff this bank holiday weekend against eight international teams.

The crew is currently lying fifth overall for the season championship, but recent progress up the leaderboard has given them a taste for success and they are quietly ambitious going into the next event.

'We started the season with a ‘watch and learn’ approach, keen to pick up as much as possible from the other highly experienced teams,' explained Jérôme Clerc. 'During the Porto regatta we gave the helm to French sailor Pierre Pennec and we learnt a lot from him. With the same approach in mind we are going to have Tanguy Cariou onboard in Cardiff trimming the mainsail. We know Tanguy well, he is highly experienced and will be well placed to help us learn and progress. We feel that we are on the right track and are making progress in the right direction!'

In addition to Clerc and Cariou, Bruno Barbarin will race with Realteam as tactian, Cédric Schmidt as trimmer and Thierry Wasem as bowman.

With two new teams and more big names joining the fleet in Wales, the competition is looking to be tough.

The race-course in Cardiff is challenging, a short course located in the heart of Cardiff Harbour, allowing little room for error, small passing opportunities and no runway for mistakes at the turning marks.

Racing starts at 1400 BST everyday from Friday 23 until Monday 26 August.

From Cardiff the Extreme fleet moves to Nice in France for the penultimate Act of the 2013 season.
