Extreme Sailing Series - SAP Extreme Sailing Team get down to racing

by Sarah Branson on 15 Nov 2013 At the final Act of the 2013 Extreme Sailing Series, the SAP Extreme Sailing Team quickly acclimatized to the hot and breezy conditions in Florianópolis, Brazil, hitting the water this afternoon ready to secure race wins for the first day.

In race two the team really found their form and had the Swiss locked in their sights managing to squeeze round the top mark inside them, unfurl their giant gennaker and power off downwind to the finish to take a first across the line!

Great work by the team who before the race start said they were going to 'enjoy the racing, sail their own race and not get too carried away with the results.' And enjoy the racing they certainly did with the ideal conditions in which the team seems to relish. The breeze cranked up to 20 knots, and the SAP Extreme Sailing Team were flying as they screamed downwind, hulls flying with continuing success and two further firsts across the finish line in races 5 and 7.

In a perfect opening day for the final Act, with five teams still in with a chance of reaching the podium, the SAP Extreme Sailing Team tactician and co-skipper Rasmus Kostner knew ahead of racing that it would all come down to the starts and lean boat handling. 'As Jes always says our strength is our team and I agree with him. We are all very close, confident in each other and our racing has become sharper and more efficient due to the SAP technology analysis and preparation.'

Today's racing was hard core in choppy waters and searing heat with the SAP Extreme Sailing Team achieving solid results and scoring an overall joint third position with 56 SAP Extreme Extreme Sailing Series
