EFPT at DAM-X – Van Broeckhoven and Offringa claim 2016 titles

by EFPT on 16 Oct 2016
Top three men and women - EFPT at DAM-X - 16 October 2016 EFPT
At the final day of the DAM-X event at the Zeil- and Surfcentrum Brouwersdam the wind unfortunately never kicked in properly so the official freestyle competition had been called off by race director Tom Hartmann just around 1.00pm. We are looking back on an amazing event with great conditions and one of the most spectacular freestyle shows of the year. 36 men and 10 women were battling it out in a whole single and double elimination.

After winning also the first ever European womens freestyle champion title in 2015, powerhouse from Aruba Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard/Neilpryde) could defend her position in 2016 against her biggest opponents: Dutchies Arrianne Aukes (North/Fanatic) who became second and Maaike Huvermann (Starboard/Severne) who got third.

Belgian rider Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP/Neilpryde) who won already four EFPT titles (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014) could once again prove that he was still on top of his game pulling another freestyle champion title in 2016. Van Broeckhoven managed to win every EFPT event in 2016 and showed his skills in very varying conditions.

French rider Adrien Bosson (North/Fanatic) who has been on the hunt for the title for two years now, ended up in second place this year which means he improved one position since 2015 and stated that he intends to keep on going this way to eventually become EFPT champion.

Third place overall in 2016 was awarded to Italian rider Jacopo Testa who showed an amazing performance this season on tour. Testa became third in the EFPT Lanzarote and second at the DAM-X 2016 having his best season on tour so far.

Placed third at this event has been World Champion of 2015, Dieter Van der Eyken (Starboard/Severne) who only entered one EFPT event this year.

Apart from the winners of the event, the overall winners of 2016 and the DAM-X tow-in top three, also the EFPT rookie of the year and the EFPT overall tow-in champion have been awarded in Brouwersdam.

Rookie of the year 2016 is Johnny Yagen from Israel who was competing at every EFPT event this year and ended up in 15th place overall. Yagen turned 18 just a week ago yet showed some great competition sailing this year when he entered his first international contests.

The EFPT overall tow-in title was awarded to a very positively surprised Davy Scheffers. The Brouwersdam local could win over Antoine Albert (Goya/Goya) in second and Adam Sims (Patrik) in third place overall.

The crew of DAM-X once again did a perfect job and the world-famous spot at the Brouwersdam delivered some great conditions for this last windsurfing freestyle competition of the year. We are looking forwards to return to the Zeil- and Surfcentrum for the DAM-X 2017!
