Doyle Sails New Zealand have announced that top dinghy sailor, sail designer and coach, Andrew Brown has joined as One Design Manager

Originally from Christchurch, Brown is the holder of 13 national titles in dinghy racing, and represented New Zealand at the 2004 Olympics in the International 470 Class. He currently undertakes contract coaching for the Yachting New Zealand's NZL Sailing Team, as well as coaching locally and internationally and running local yacht club programmes in Auckland. 'I am really looking forward to working with the great team at Doyle Sails supporting the One Design classes,' says Brown.

'We are delighted to be welcoming Andrew to the Doyle team,' says Mike Sanderson, Head of Sales at Doyle Sails New Zealand. 'As one of New Zealand’s prolific One Design sailors and coaches, he is a huge asset and we look forward to working with him on the development and promotion of our One Design range.'

Having seen rewarding results to date from Doyle’s involvement with One Design classes such as the Finn Class, welcoming Andrew on board is part of a long term commitment by Doyle Sails NZ to the One Design market. 'The up and coming future generations of sailors are very important to Doyle Sails NZ and we are dedicated to supporting and cultivating both local and international rising talent,' says Sanderson. 'Whilst the racing and superyacht sectors are our core business, we have never lost sight of the importance of the local market; it is and will remain a crucial part of our business that we indeed to develop and grow in the long term.'

Under Andrew’s leadership the loft will continue to extend their investment and apply design and sail making innovation across the whole One Design fleet. Andrew’s expertise together with the acumen of the Doyle NZ design team, led by head of design Richard Bouzaid, himself an experienced dinghy sailor, will help take the Doyle One Design sails to the next level.

Alongside his new role at Doyle, Andrew will continue his coaching work and as rep for J-Sails, ensuring business as usual for Kiwi Optimist sailors.

Andrew can be contacted at andrew.brown@doylesails.co.nz
