This year’s 50th Delta Lloyd 24 Hour Yachting Race in the Netherlands will be sailed at August 22 and 23. The starting gun will be fired on Friday evening August 23, 2014 at fourteen locations around the IJsselmeer and Markermeer in the Netherlands. Around 700 boats will be expected with a mass finish and thousands of visitors at Saturday evening in Medemblik. In 2013 all boats sailed together 70.742 Nautical Miles within 24 hours.

The Dutch Association of Coastal Sailors organizes this year for the 50th time the Delta Lloyd 24 Hour Yachting Race. This biggest yachting event in the Netherlands is all about collecting the most nautical miles within 24 hours. The combination of navigation skills, sailing, sociability and survival makes the event is still popular with yacht sailors. The fleet consists of touring and racing classes. All teams must complete as many miles a day as possible. They may only sail the defined legs on the IJsselmeer, Markermeer, the Wadden Sea and North Sea sailed twice, so navigation is essential. Besides seaworthiness and endurance of the crew, a good interpretation of the weather, the sailing area and the major currents are important factors for the final result.

The Delta Lloyd 24 Hour Yachting Race is open to the ORC Club, Round and Flatbottom-Yachts, VKSJ registered (classical) yachts, FPC (Poly-Classic), ocean-going multihulls and in non-measured yachts. The bulk of the fleet joins the tour division. The rest is devided over the various racing classes.

Registration to take part in the unique 50th edition is possible via the event website.
