2015 ISAF World Match Racing Tour - Energa Sopot Match Race Corbett Racing
As the World Match Racing Tour wraps up the European quota of the 2015 season with the Energa Sopot Match Race Poland just one week ago, the Kiwi-flagged team Corbett Racing, who is new to the Tour this year, have big ambitions for the rest of the season with a podium position on the Tour and a top 10 in the ISAF World Rankings theirs for the taking.
The team, led by Rueben Corbett, a graduate of the prestigious Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Match Racing Programme, had a strong start to the season claiming their best results at the Congressional Cup USA, and the Stena Match Cup Sweden, finishing fifth at both. Currently fifth on the overall Tour standings and two points shy of the podium, a below par result at the Energa Sopot Match Race has left the team all the more fired up for the rest of the season.
“Poland was disappointing for us, after the great season we were having up to that point, but we did manage to up our game on the final day with two race wins so it was good to get those in the bag. It was a big learning experience. And not a scenario we intend to find ourselves in again,” commented Corbett. “In our debrief we concluded there was no one big thing to improve on but instead we need to improve everything by 1%. It’s all about those inches that will make the difference in the end.”
The teams Trimmer, Tom Dawson (GBR), who between match racing events is part of the Concise Mod 70 team, summed up the teams ambitions. “When we joined the Tour this year we knew we had the ability to give the top players a run for their money, and we have shown we can do that. A top three finish this season is ours for the taking and we will come out fighting at the Argo Gold Cup and the Monsoon Cup.”
Off the water, Corbett Racing has welcomed Baltriess Agency, Carbon 6ix and Composite Aspect as team partners, providing invaluable support to the team in their first season competing on the World Match Racing Tour.
