La première journée du Championnat du Monde des catamarans Class C a été marquée par un brouillard très britannique, ainsi qu’une absence de vent qui a contraint le Comité de Course a reporter le début des courses à demain.

Falmouth (UK), le 22 septembre 2013 – Les deux équipages engagés sous pavillon Suisse dans la « Petite Coupe », le championnat international des Catamarans Class C, ont dû s’armer de patience cet après-midi à l’occasion de la première journée de la compétition. Le vent était en effet aux abonnés absents, tandis qu'un épais brouillard recouvrait l'espace dévolu aux courses.

Le Comité de course a commencé par faire patienter les compétiteurs; puis le vent s’est levé, à 5-7 noeuds, autorisant le lancement d’une procédure de départ. Après un premier faux départ, les compétiteurs se sont élancés pour de bon, mais le brouillard était trop dense, rendant les conditions dangereuses et forçant le Comité à annuler cette régate.

'C'était vraiment dur de voir où nous allions», a commenté Bastiaan Tentij. 'Nous avons passé une longue journée sur l’eau et c'est dommage que nous n'ayons pas pu courir de manche. Nous avons pu faire un petit speed test entre les deux bateaux Hydros et Groupama, puis nous avons pris le temps de travailler les manoeuvres et de faire des manches d’entraînement entre nous. J’espère que la visibilité sera meilleure demain. Normalement, le vent devrait souffler de façon plus soutenue, donc nous avons bon espoir.'

'Ce n’est absolument pas un problème pour nous», a quant à lui déclaré Jérémie Lagarrigue, le responsable du team Hydros et équipier de l’un des deux voiliers suisses aux côtés du barreur Billy Besson. «C’est le lot des régatiers, et nous sommes habitués. En fait, cette période d'attente nous a permis d'observer tous nos futurs adversaires sur l'eau, et de jauger notre niveau de préparation par rapport à eux.'

Fondé en 1961, le championnat du monde des Class C est l’une des épreuves les plus prestigieuses du calendrier nautique international. Doté de règles simples, il symbolise la recherche fondamentale et le développement technologique sans limites.

Financée par Lombard Odier & Cie et constituée de deux équipages de pointe, l'équipe Hydros était la première à naviguer sur le site des régates, à Falmouth, au sud de la Grande-Bretagne, depuis plus d’un mois.
