Around forty Audi Melges 20s will compete this weekend in Loano, Italy commencing the first act of the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series, organized by B.Plan Sport and Events (BPSE) in cooperation with Melges Europe.
Hosted by the Marina di Loano and its Yacht Club, the impressive fleet comprises the top class members that raced the winter season in Europe and the United States.
Top level teams arriving from nine nations does not make predicting the next Audi-Tron Sailing Series winner very easy. Among those expected to attend is reigning European Champion Guido Miani on Out of Reach, newly crowned winner of the Monaco Sportboat Winter Series Achille Onorato aboard Mascalzone Latino, Jr. with Olympian Malcolm Page, Agusta Corrado on Customly, Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda Racing. And of course, there are all the other usual, top-notch suspects under the microscope - Mirko de Falco's Peccere, Manfredi Vianini Tolomei's Maolca, Carlo Perrone's Atlantichina, Marco Perazzo's Audi g-Tron, Valentin Zavadnikov's Synergy GT and Vladmir Prosikhi's Nika.
'We are expecting a thrilling first act: the search for the 'Audi Melges 20 'First of the Kings' has just started. Competing team numbers are very close to the ones registered at the Riva del Garda World Championship last year and the level of the sailors involved increases the series challenging level. We hope that weather conditions will be our side' says Riccardo Simoneschi, BPSE leader and Audi g-tron tactician.
A total of six races is scheduled between tomorrow and Sunday with a discard coming into play at the completion.
In addition to main sponsor Audi, the Audi-Tron Sailing Series is supported by official sponsors Kuehne+Nagel, Technical Partners Torqeedo, Caffe Vergnano, Bavaria, Usail, Nuova Jolly and The Suite Club.
