Nearly 100 Olympic international teams will take part this weekend in the Arenal Training Camps Trophy in the bay of Palma de Mallorca; a training regatta for the Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mapfre, to be held from 30 March to 6 April.

Among the many entries, the Training Camps Trophy will see the teams taking new options for the Río 2016 Games following the change of the Olympic programme.

And such is the case of the London 2012 Spanish Olympic champions. Támara Echegoyen will debut in the new 49er FX class with crew Berta Betanzos, 2011 470 women European and World Champion. One of her rivals in this new skiff will be Italian team Giulia Conti, a former 470 class sailor and now sailing with Francesca Clapcich. British sailor Kate Macgregor, who also sailed the Women’s Match Racing in London 2012, also changes to 49er FX with crew Mary Rook.

Ángela Pumariega, also gold in WMR at the Olympics will now sail the 470 women with crew Carmen Mateo.

The 49er will see the return of twice Olympic medallist Iker Martínez to Olympic sailing, after his experience in the America’s Cup, this time with Iago López replacing his up to now crew Xabi Fernández.

The Arenal Training Camps Trophy will be held from Friday to Sunday, with nine scheduled races (expected to start every day at 12.00hrs) for Olympic classes 49er, 49er FX, 470 M and W, Nacra, Laser Standard and Radial and Finn. The prize giving ceremony, scheduled on Sunday at 18.00hrs, will mark the end of this international regatta that reaches its seventh edition.
