An amendment detailing conditions to register for Vendée Globe

by Vendée Globe on 6 May 2016
Race start - 2016 Vendée Globe Vincent Curutchet / Dark Frame http://www.extremesailingseries.com/
In the first amendment to the Notice of Race that has just been edited first of May 2016 the Race Directors have detailed the conditions that apply to skippers when registering for the Vendée Globe, and for withdrawing, should that apply.

This text reminds everyone of the importance given to the order in which the skippers register to become one of the 27 competing in the Everest of the seas. The first 27 skippers are given priority and that will remain so, as long as they respect all the procedures. The others are placed on a waiting list.

The amendment of the NOR begins with a vital reminder: the number of competitors in the 2016-2017 Vendée Globe is limited to 27.

The second reminder is that the order of registration is the determining factor. What this means is that the first 27 skippers to register and complete the administrative process have and will remain to have priority, under the express condition that they satisfy all the sailing requirements (qualification of the skipper by October 1st 2016 and the requirement to obtain IMOCA certification valid for the 2016-2017 Vendée Globe by 30th September 2016).

27 given priority and a waiting list
The amendment also makes it clear that there is a waiting list going beyond the first 27 skippers to register. In this waiting list, we can see the sailors, who registered after the first 27, who have completed the administrative process and have fulfilled all the sailing requirements.

In short, they are ready to set off. If applicable, these skippers may replace any skipper in the list of 27, who stands down or who does not satisfy all the sailing requirements, in other words, the qualification and/or IMOCA class rules certification on time. This is the case for Nicolas Boidevézi who, having taken the decision to withdraw, has freed up the place of 14th entry.

Finally, in the ongoing sailing requirements list, some skippers administratively registered are continuing their preparations with the aim of completing their entrance requirements for the Vendée Globe. They will be able to join the waiting list in order.
