In late 2013, Morgan Lagravière was selected to take over from Marc Guillemot at the helm of the new Safran, leading up to his first attempt at the Vendée Globe in 2016/2017. The 27-year old today made his registration official for the non-stop solo round the world race.
After three seasons in the Figaro circuit, making it to the podium twice in the prestigious Solitaire and winning the French solo championship title, Lagravière will be aiming to be up there with the frontrunners in the next Vendée Globe. He will then be 29, which is the same age as a certain François Gabart, when he won the 2012-2013 race... Morgan will be at the helm of a fantastic boat in the shape of the new Safran, the first of the six VPLP-Verdier designs from the new generation to be launched. Having successfully passed the righting test required in the IMOCA class, the boat is now ready to sail for the first time. Morgan Lagravière now has just over eighteen months to get to grips with his new boat. To do so, he will be able to count on some useful advice from Marc Guillemot.
