Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 - Alicante, Spain, June 20 – Corinna Halloran was revealed today as the Onboard Reporter for Team SCA in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, tasked with bringing the full story of the all-women crew to an audience of millions.

The team have conducted a thorough selection process to find the best possible media candidate for this most testing of journalistic roles and Halloran of Newport, Rhode Island, needed to pass a transatlantic test of her skills with the crew to win the job.

As part of her duties, Halloran will provide daily news reports, video, audio and photos to Volvo Ocean Race HQ that in turn will be transmitted to the race’s ever-increasing fan base via the media.

'This is an amazing opportunity, this project is truly unique and I feel privileged to be able to tell SCA’s story to the world,' she said.

'The level of technology onboard is second to none and it allows me to really bring the story from our all-female Team SCA to new groups of fans over the world, bringing in as many perspectives as possible so that people can grasp the enormity of this event.'

Jon Bramley, Director of News and Media for the Race, added: 'She brings great skill to the role and also a real commitment to tell the true story of life on board.

'The onboard reporters are absolutely key in our attempt to convey the full human adventure which is the Volvo Ocean Race. They are our eyes and ears at sea after the rest of the media is left a long way behind. It is key we find the right people to fill this most demanding of roles and in Corinna we’re very confident we and our colleagues at Team SCA have done just that.'

Halloran will join Briton Libby Greenhalgh in the Team SCA line-up after the weather expert was confirmed as a crewmember earlier this week.

The all-women challenge learned this week that they will face a new competitor in the race which begins with the Alicante in-port race on October 4, 2014.

A Spanish challenger, spearheaded by two of the Race’s best-known sailors Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez, was announced as the sixth boat in the fleet on Thursday.

The main sponsors and skipper of the campaign, Spain’s 10th to take part in the 41-year-old race, will be revealed at a later date.

Meanwhile, the Chinese-backed Dongfeng Race Team are preparing for major news of their own next week. All eight members of their crew will be announced in a ceremony at their training base in Lorient, France on Thursday (June 27) by skipper Charles Caudrelier.

Two other announced members of the six-strong fleet –Team Brunel and Team Alvimedica – have been enjoying a deserved breather while not neglecting their gym work in the last week and some welcome time at home.
Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing are raring to go, however, and leave for their own transatlantic crossing from Cascais, Portugal to Newport this Event website
