Volvo Ocean Race – Team Brunel contrata jovem campeão

Faltam três etapas para acabar a Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 e as equipes ainda buscam novas peças para melhorar seu rendimento. O Team Brunel chamou o neozelandês Adam Minoprio, atual campeão de match race para perna que cruza o Atlântico.



A Volvo Ocean Race se prepara para mais uma etapa. No próximo fim de semana, os barcos partem de Newport, nos Estados Unidos, para Lisboa, em Portugal. O campeonato, o mais equilibrado da história da Volta ao Mundo, exige máximo cuidado das equipes, que se reforçam para as pernas finais. A mais nova aquisição é de Adam Minoprio. O velejador da Nova Zelândia é campeão mundial de match race e substituirá o espanhol Javier de la Plaza no time da Holanda.

Com 29 anos, o kiwi tem um currículo de peso apesar da pouca idade. Em 2009, ele se converteu no mais jovem campeão mundial de match race. Anos depois disputou a Volvo Ocean Race como timoneiro e trimmer do CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand, vice-campeão da edição 2011-12.



Em 2014, Minoprio foi trimmer e táctico do sindicato Luna Rossa na America's Cup. “A Volvo Ocean Race é uma regata fisicamente muito mais exigente que as competições costeiras”, explicou Adam Minoprio. 'É uma honra que Bouwe Bekking tenha me chamado para sua equipe. Junto com a America's Cup, a Volvo Ocean Race é o máximo da vela”.

O Team Brunel está em terceiro na classificação geral depois de seis etapas. O time soma 21 pontos, 10 atrás dos líderes Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, e quatro do segundo, que é o Dongfeng Race Team.

A largada para Lisboa está marcada para o domingo (17). A etapa terá 2.800 milhas náuticas.
