Volvo Ocean Race - Alors que le jour se lève sur la base sous-marine de Lorient, Dongfeng Race Team, le bateau franco-chinois, est le dernier des sept concurrents à s’amarrer au ponton. A bord, les sourires sont là mais ne cachent pas la déception causée par ce résultat sévère, le pire de toute la course.

« On va vite, mais au mauvais endroit » plaisante Charles Caudrelier. Car l’étape s’est jouée à une seule décision, lourde de conséquences. Il y a quatre jours, le long des côtes portugaises, Dongfeng Race Team est à 50 mètres de Team SCA quand il décide d’infléchir sa route pour marquer ses concurrents. On connait la suite, les filles se sont envolées vers la victoire pendant que Dongfeng fermait la marche. « Nous avons fait une belle erreur dès le début. Après, nous avons tout fait pour revenir mais nous n’y sommes pas arrivés. Nous étions dans le bon côté avec les filles puis on a choisi de contrôler nos concurrents. On aurait dû rester avec les filles qui ont fait une manche remarquable. Cela aurait été plus sympa pour nous de nous battre avec elles plutôt que de passer notre temps à essayer de revenir sur le groupe » reconnait Charles Caudrelier.

Le résultat est dur pour Dongfeng Race Team qui retrouve son port d’attache, 9 mois après l’avoir quitté. Non seulement, ils n’ont plus la moindre chance de remporter la course mais ils perdent aussi la deuxième place. Même leur place sur le podium est menacée puisque MAPFRE n’est plus qu’à deux points de la troisième place. « Arriver ici avec cette place, ca fait ch… » résume Bidégorry, le navigateur. La dernière étape vers Göteborg sera donc capitale pour Dongfeng Race Team. S’ils parviennent à inverser la tendance, les franco-chinois peuvent prendre la seconde place. Dans le cas contraire, ils termineront au pied du podium.
