Volvo Ocean Race – La tripulación para el regreso de Team Vestas Wind

Volvo Ocean Race – Con más del 70% de su barco reconstruido, Team Vestas Wind ha anunciado dos nuevos fichajes para completar su tripulación de cara al retorno del equipo en Lisboa: el navegante australiano Tom Addis, y el holandés Simon Tienpont, que sustituirá a Tom Johnson como proa.

Team Vestas Wind ha anunciado el fichaje de dos regatistas de la élite mundial para su regreso, previsto para la etapa 8 entre Lisboa (Portugal) y Lorient (Francia): el australiano Tom Addis, y el holandés Simeon Tienpont.

El equipo se vio apeado de la Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 tras chocar contra un arrecife durante la etapa 2 en el archipiélago de Cargados Carajos, en pleno océano Indico, uno de los incidentes más graves sucedidos en la vuelta al mundo a vela por equipos.

Addis ocupará el puesto de navegante, mientras que Tienpont se encargará de la proa del barco después de que Tom Johnson haya decidido incorporarse al Oracle Team USA.



De 45 años, Tom Addis es un veterano de la Volvo Ocean Race con dos ediciones en su haber, una a bordo de PUMA, y otra con el Telefónica Azul. Además, ha participado en numerosas regatas transatlánticas y en la Sidney-Hobart también en numerosas ocasiones.

Team Vestas Wind confía en que este ingeniero y experto matemático será un activo importante de cara a las etapas más cortas y técnicas de Lisboa en adelante.

Por su parte, Tienpont, de 33 años, ha sido tripulante del equipo ganador de la Copa América, el Oracle Team USA, en dos ocasiones, y debutó en la Volvo Ocean Race en 2005-06 a bordo del ABN AMRO TWO.



El patrón del equipo, el también australiano Chris Nicholson, comentaba que 'ahora somos un equipo completo, y nuestro objetivo será volver a la regata en Lisboa e intentar que nuestra actuación sea la mejor para las etapas restantes de la Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15'.
