Volvo Ocean Race – La Volvo fait un saut à La Haye

Les concurrents de la Volvo Ocean Race, partis mardi dernier de Lorient, sont attendus cette nuit, vers minuit, à La Haye. Le port néerlandais ne constitue pas une escale mais seulement un « pit – stop » sur la route de Göteborg. La flotte repartira samedi prochain, à la mi-journée, avec les écarts enregistrés à l’arrivée ce soir.

La flotte évolue maintenant en mer du nord et des options franches se sont dessinées. Le DST (Dispositif de Séparation du Trafic) n’a jamais aussi bien porté son nom puisque quatre bateaux ont choisi le sud quand les trois autres privilégiaient le nord. A moins de 100 milles de l’arrivée, les nordistes ont longtemps tiré avantage de leur option mais les temps sont durs. Ces dernières heures, Alvimedica n’a cessé de grappiller du terrain sur Dongfeng et il pourrait prendre la tête sous peu puisqu’il a maintenant moins de 4 milles de retard et progresse à 11 nœuds quand ses concurrents ne sont qu’à 10.

Pour le classement de l’étape, cette portion est décisive mais ce n’est pas là que se joue le sort de la Volvo Ocean Race. Les trois bateaux qui se battent pour la seconde place sont en effet partis au nord. La configuration actuelle est favorable à Dongfeng Race Team. Les franco-chinois gardent MAPFRE dans leur tableau arrière – et sécurisent donc leur troisième place - alors que Team Brunel n’est que 4ème. Cet écart n’est pour l’instant pas suffisant pour assurer une deuxième place à Caudrelier et ses hommes (il faut trois bateaux d’écart) mais il leur permet de continuer – plus que jamais - à s’accrocher à leur rêve.
