Prince de Bretagne - Ultime80 class Transat Jacques Vabre Prince de Bretagne
Due to the deteriorating weather the two co-skippers on board the capsized 80 foot trimaran Prince de Bretagne, Lionel Lemonchois and Roland Jourdain, triggered their emergency distress beacon at 1520hrs UTC.
Winds were at 30kts with a four metres swell with the prospect of 40kts tomorrow, Wednesday.
The decision to activate their beacon was taken after discussions with their shore team, their partners and they are in contact with Transat Jacques Vabre Race Direction. The skippers safety is the main priority. CROSS Gris Nez and MRCC Madrid are organising their evacuation.
The Maxi80 Prince de Bretagne capsized yesterday, Monday, around 1915hrs UTC, when they were about 140 miles off Cape Finisterre, Lionel Lemonchois and Roland Jourdain but they did not, initially, seek outside assistance, with their team initially tasked with a recovery operation.
