Regata teste da Volvo Ocean Race tem muita ação e vencedor improvável

Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, Mais difícil do que o previsto, a Leg 0 - regata que não vale pontos - colocou à prova as sete equipes da Volta ao Mundo. Melhor para o Team Vestas Wind, time que entrou de última hora na aventura.

A Volvo Ocean Race promete muitas emoções a partir de outubro. A Leg 0, regata teste para equipes e organização, mostrou que a Volta ao Mundo terá equilíbrio, drama e muita ação. A prova de 345 milhas deste fim de semana não valeu pontos, mas serviu para as sete equipes acertarem os últimos detalhes nessa reta final de preparação.


A vitória do percurso de Alicante - Palma de Maiorca - Alicante ficou para o Team Vestas Wind, barco dinamarquês, último a entrar na Volvo Ocean Race. A vantagem foi pequena, menos de 100 metros para o Team Brunel, da Holanda. Na sequência chegaram Abu Dhabi, Team Alvimedica, Team SCA, Dongfeng e Team España fechando a flotilha.

'Não foi apenas sorte. Velejamos bem e mostramos para nossa tripulação que podemos ser competitivos. A regra é ser fiel à estratégia e proceder bem nas manobras', disse Chris Nicholson, comandante do Team Vestas Wind.


O caso mais dramático da regata foi a queda do chinês Jin Hao Chen (Horace), tripulante do Dongfeng. 'Poderia ter sido muito pior em condições de regata de verdade. Não é divertido alguém cair ao mar na escuridão. Vimos que ainda cometem muitos erros', contou Charles Caudrelier, comandante do Dongfeng. Apesar do susto ocorrido durante a velejada noturna, o atleta foi resgatado rapidamente.

As sete equipes vão agora fazer um balanço do que foi a Leg 0 e preparar suas tripulações para a Regata In-Port Race de Alicante, em 4 de outubro.
