Cinco dos seis barcos que disputam a quinta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race podem assumir a qualquer momento a liderança nos mares do Sul. O equilíbrio entre as equipes é traduzido nos números informados pela organização nesta quinta-feira (26). O líder provisório é o chinês Dongfeng com menos de 20 quilômetros para o quinto colocado Abu Dhabi. Apenas o Team SCA está longe dessa briga. Parece que a chegada em Itajaí, em Santa Catarina, será emocionante.



'O ambiente a bordo é excelente, mas será ainda melhor quando cruzarmos o Cabo Horn', disse Yann Riou, repórter a bordo do Dongfeng.

Na véspera, a liderança estava com o MAPFRE, que tem o brasileiro André 'Bochecha' Fonseca como integrante. 'A regata está bastante difícil e gelada. Queremos chegar o mais rápido possível para receber o carinho do público'. Os espanhóis estão em terceiro no momento.



A previsão é que os barcos cheguem no Brasil durante a Páscoa. O campeonato é liderado por Abu Dhabi e Dongfeng.

Iceberg

Um bloco gigante de gelo se desloca na direção dos barcos. O iceberg tem mais de um quilômetro de comprimento e 150 metros de largura, além de ter 25 milhões de toneladas. A organização estabeleceu limites para evitar que um colisão ocorresse. A última vez que um barco da Volvo Ocean Race colidiu com um iceberg foi na edição 2001-02. Foi o News Corporation.
