Welcome to the Monday edition of Sail-World.Com/NZ’s newsletter.

Over the weekend the world body of sailing, the International Sailing Federation, ISAF, celebrated its one hundredth birthday, with a series of sailing events around the world with the intention of getting everyone out sailing.

Our Saturday consisted of a trip to Whangateau Harbour, north of Auckland for the attempted launching of the Laurie Davidson designed Swooper of Cox’s Creek, now in the guardianship of my nephew who is the third generation of our family to own and cruise a yacht on the Hauraki Gulf.

Unfortunately it took three tides to get her to her mooring. But that’s all part of the fun, I guess.

We feature more grand celebrations of ISAF’s Centenary from Napier and Manly Sailing Clubs.

There’s also news from the Farr 40 Worlds, which saw Vincenzo Onorato of Mascalzone Latino fame beat Alinghi by a very healthy 35 point margin.

In Samoa the South Pacific Games are underway and we have a report and pictures courtesy of ISAF.

And don’t forget to read the latest Letter from the Med as Andrea and Ian Treleaven, sail into Spain.

We also got reports on the latest arrivals in the Bavaria line-up - the 37 and 38ft edition. Orders for these will take the number of Bavarias sailing in New Zealand to over 100 yachts. Another great milestone for International Marine Brokers.

Good sailing!

Circumnavigation and transatlantic records fall
New Jules Verne Trophy and Transatlantic Race records established January's cold may be icing-up sailing aspirations in much of North America right now, but the international sailing news cycle has been lit-up of late with tales of adventure, record-breaking circumnavigations, and proud racing efforts on the high seas.

The other way
Is it the wrong way? Some even think it might be the right way! Hobart to Sydney. The delivery home. Is it the wrong way? Some even think it might be the right way! Hobart to Sydney. Yes. The delivery home. It has always struck me that it does not get anywhere near the attention of the way down, but back up needs just as much care and consideration.

Perfect Perth for SailGP Season Opener
Spectacular racing, damage, collisions and injuries The Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix saw the kind of conditions that SailGP sailors and the fans relish. Small rigs, high speeds, a tight racecourse, and some spectacular racing.

From one extreme to the other
Let's go inshore, and how, with the 16-foot skiffs. Great action, and superb sailing. We'd been in supermaxi, mini maxi, double hander and serious weather mode for what seemed like some time. Then, as is the case at this time of year, there are a plethora of Australian Championships that get run, especially for OTB classes.

The complete package
A thriving clubhouse leads to higher racing attendance, and visa versa I'm a great believer in starting things on the right foot. Be that in the morning, going for a run (even though it was damn chilly this morning) to set yourself up for the day, or preparing ahead for a meeting so that you've got the figures to hand.

Sydney Hobart – A very ordinary Hobart
