That was not a problem as with his twenty-four points in total he leaves the rest of the class behind him.

'I realised that if I would end last and Fontes would finish first, I would lose.' That was not that likely. Still Slingsby wanted to sail a good race and was watching his competition closely: 'I was watching Fontes too much in the beginning of the race. So I decided to sail my own race. And that worked for me', says Slingsby.

'I’m very happy about my first place. I had to win a big regratta like the Delta Lloyd to increase my chances on getting an Olympic nomination. I have put the pressure on my opponents.'
