JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiffs: Moderate breeze again for Day 5 - PredictWind
Thu, 21 Feb 2013
Another moderate breeze is predicted for the fifth race of the 64th JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff Championship being sailed on Sydney Harbour, at the earlier time of 2.00pm.
PredictWind is showing a breeze at a 12kts average at 2.00pm similar previous races in the regatta.
As we have seen in previous races there can big holes in the wind and significant changes in direction, caused by local issues.
However winds on the harbour according to another real time source are showing a stronger breeze of 13kts gusting to 16kts as of 9.30am local time - close to what PredictWind forecast for that time of the morning, with the difference maybe accounted for in the different locations of the forecast and readings.
For the rest of the week, winds are not expected to increase to be stronger than what has been seen to date, and the current pattern is looking more likely on Saturday and Sunday.
This prognosis has been based on a reference point in the centre of Sydney Harbour, and will obviously vary on the edges of the course
Developed by former Olympian, Jon Bilger (470, 1992), PredictWind?nid=106781 application was used by the Swiss team Alinghi to win the 2003 and 2007 America's Cups, and has become the leading wind system used by racing and recreational sailors around the world. It is available on a subscription basis and also with a free forecast option.
A mobile app for Andriod and iPhone is available and PredictWind?nid=106781 is probably the most used app on the Sail-World iPhone.
Real time local wind observations have been added as further functionality.
You can check the weather anywhere in the world, and get a five day forecast, plus a variety of other features and functions of PredictWind?nid=106781. The app is synchronised with your PC, so that your latest set of locations are always available without resetting each time you change a device.
