If you are to be anywhere near Melbourne between 2nd and 6th July, it will be worth turning up at the Melbourne International Boat Show, even if it's just for the prizes you can win. The show takes place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), which stretches for half a kilometre along the banks of the Yarra River in the very heart of Melbourne. Melbourne Boat Show patrons can win a magnificent new Whittler Inflatable RIB package as part of a $7,500 worth of great marine prizes over the five days of the Show. Daily prize draws will culminate with the Whittley-Yamaha draw on the final day, Monday 6 July, when all the entries will be put in the RIB for the draw. The major prize is Whittley Inflatable Fibreglass RIB Floor 270 powered by a Yamaha 5 CMHS outboard, courtesy of Whittley Marine Group, Yamaha Motor Australia and Geelong Boating Centre. Complete with oars, foot pump and repair kit, the package is worth $4,500. Part of the brand new range of Whittley Inflatable Boats, it has room for three adults and a child, features Hypalon rubber construction and a non-skid fibreglass floor, and is designed to be exceptionally stable at rest. Thursday and Saturday prizes are two Hobie Lanai Kayaks courtesy of Hobie Cat Australasia. Worth $1,000 each, the Hobie Lanai is nimble, lightweight, stable and easy to handle. Its 2.7 metre length makes it manageable for children, yet comfortable for a tall paddler, and its roomy cockpit features ample storage and built-in drink-holder. Young wake boarders can win a great prize from Deja Vu Ski & Board Stores on the Friday and Sunday – a Double Up Grommet Wakeboard with Rocket Bindings, valued at $499 and ideal for the young rider who values style and top performance on the water. Each day’s prize draw will be at 6.30pm, and entry is as simple as filling in a coupon and dropping it in the entry barrel on Stand H55. Opening hours are 10am to 9pm daily except Sunday, when the show closes at 7pm, and Monday when it closes at 8pm. For more information about the show and how to get tickets, to to their website.
