Central Queensland boaties will benefit from a $10 million boating infrastructure boost from the State Government, Member for Keppel, Paul Hoolihan, announced today.

Mr Hoolihan said, 'this is part of a $50 million State Government boating infrastructure investment.'

Local projects being funded are:-

• Two new rigid pontoons in the Rosslyn Bay Boat Harbour (planned for the first half of 2009);

• A replacement boat ramp at Rosslyn Bay for which the State will contribute 50%;

• The replacement of the existing one lane boat ramp at Cawarral Creek (commonly known as the Coorooman Creek Boat Ramp) with a two lane boat ramp (planned for the end of 2009)

• Dredging of the entrance, internal channels and mooring areas in the Rosslyn Bay Boat Harbour (planned to take place from May to October 2009).

Queensland is fast becoming the 'boating capital' of Australia and that is why, in 2008-09, the Bligh Labor Government is spending $50 million on boating infrastructure and related services - more than double the $21.4 million that the State’s boat owners will pay in registration for the same period.

Mr Hoolihan said Queensland now has the largest recorded number of recreational vessels in Australia with over 221,000 registered vessels.

'This figure will continue to grow as more and more people take advantage of the many lifestyle opportunities that our State provides.'

'This increase in demand has resulted in a greater need for new and improved recreational boating facilities,' Mr Hoolihan said.
