'Scarlett’s crew - are these the youngest sailors ever to complete a circumnavigation of Australia?'

There's nothing on the agenda about non-competitive or adventure sailing as yet, but Yachting Australia will hold a national meeting of owners and interested parties to express their opinion about participation in the sport of sailing, and they are asking for agenda items. What about cruising sailors suggesting that there should be recognition of non-competitive sailors and their sometimes amazing sailing achievements which go unrecognised? Any issues that owners wish to have considered for the agenda should be emailed in advance to: susan.veal@yachting.org.au. Come on, cruising sailors, have your say! Put something on the agenda that you feel strongly about. With their minds only on racing, the announcement says the meeting is about 'rating and handicap rules, event formats and other related issues and will provide an opportunity to hear what is happening in the sport and to have your say.' The meeting will be held at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Sydney, on Friday 27 July, from 9:00am to 12:30pm, with a dial-in facility available for the first time to those unable to attend in person. Issues that have been raised so far with Yachting Australia range from how yacht owners interests are represented with the organisation, managing risk and safety, racing rules and rating systems, and how events are formatted and scheduled. The meeting will be led by various speakers, including Matt Allen, Yachting Australia Vice-President and Chair of the Offshore Keelboat Policy Committee; Chris Oxenbould, Chair of the National Safety Committee, David Tallis, Chair of the Racing Rules Committee and Denis Thompson, International Race Officer and Race Director of many Australian key yachting events. Supporting this group will be Ross Kilborn, Yachting Australia’s Sport Development Director and Glen Stanaway, Sport Services Manager. Owners wishing to take advantage of this opportunity, to listen in on the audio webcast and hear the issues, should register on the YA website at: www.yachting.org.au/event.asp?ID=46173&format=popup.
