World Cruising Club has announced Hampton, Virginia as a new U.S. departure port for their transatlantic rally to Europe, ARC Europe departing on 6th May, 2011. As well as the start from Nanny Cay in Tortola BVI, US-based yachts will have a dedicated start on the Chesapeake. World Cruising Club say that they are delighted to be hosted by the City of Hampton at Hampton Public Piers, which will be the home for ARC Europe yachts starting in the USA. The marina has a great location in historic downtown Hampton and has full facilities. See www.downtownhampton.com for more information. Crossing to Bermuda: The crossing from Hampton to St George's, Bermuda is approximately 640nm, and should take around 5-6 days, depending upon the yacht and weather conditions. The two ARC Europe fleets - one from Hampton and one from Tortola - will meet in Bermuda and will restart en mass on 18 May 2011, bound for the Azores.. ARC Europe allows yachts to sail to Europe at the end of the Caribbean season as part of a fun rally while enjoying some memorable stops along the way.
