'Beneteau 37 - have you seen a yacht like this in Pittwater with eight or so ungrateful sailors on board?'
.

A hundred brickbats to the eight (or so) crew on board the Beneteau 37 which departed in a rush without a thank you or providing any details after an incident near Lobster Beach in Pittwater over the weekend. Brisbane Water Lifeboat, skippered by Roger Palmer, was patrolling Lobster Beach and maintaining a safety watch to keep the sea channel clear of passing vessels during the rescue of a runabout which had run up onto rocks because of a failed engine. As they were leaving the area of the Beach, they were tasked to assist a 37’ Beneteau sail boat that was firmly aground. They gladly complied, and the operation also required the assistance of a second rescue vessel. With the help of a NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer who helped lay the vessel over with a halyard from its mast to free the keel, the Brisbane Water Lifeboat towed the vessel free. However, while the rescuers were busy retrieving and clearing lines, they did not notice that the sailing boat had 'taken off at full pelt for Broken Bay' with not the hint of a thank you. So there's now a Beneteau 37 cruising round Pittwater that all self-respecting sailors will want to shun. If you were the boat that was assisted near Lobster Beach, you are giving the sailors of the world a bad name, not to mention the worthy name of Beneteau.
