New Book of the Week: The Boy Behind the Gate

'The Boy Behind the Gate - a ’must-read’'    .
We first came in contact with Larry and Ken when we were anchored in Mykonos and noticed what good sailors they were arriving into the bay on their yacht Julia - but we didn't meet.

It was half a world away when we ran into them again, in Bonaire in the Caribbean, and enjoyed sailing and playing together until our ways parted in the Pacific.

When Larry Jacobson told us he was going to write a book I just knew it would be a good one, because Larry never does anything by halves...

A successful marketing executive in San Francisco, Larry did what many long-range cruisers do - threw away his earning power, his status in the business community, all the material trappings of his successful business life, and went sailing.

Why did he do it, what did he achieve, and where has he found himself six years later? You'll have to read the book to find out, and it's a great read!

Larry sent me the book when it was in one of its final drafts, and I was captivated for a few days while the rest of my daily obligations were made to wait.

Ken and Larry on their yacht Julia in Bahia Guayraca in Colombia in 2007 -  .. .
He talks eloquently, in the story, about his fears and insecurities and how he overcame them to achieve his dream of sailing round the world. How he transformed his life from one of stability to one of uncertainty and adventure, grabbing the chance to 'do it differently' and by his own rules; and in so doing also describes the amazing adventures of their world voyage.

He says that during his six years of sailing into the unknown 'the unrelenting oceans served as a teacher of seamanship, personal strength and perseverance.'

Embarking on December 7, 2001, Larry and Ken began an adventure filled with excitement, joy, learning, and fear--all while becoming the first openly gay couple to circumnavigate the globe.

In The Boy Behind the Gate, the Larry reveals those crucial steps that will motivate you to make your dreams come true. It's a 'must-read' for the cruising sailor, and you can purchase it on Amazon for $27.95 by clicking here.

If you want the deluxe 'gift' version, at a much higher price, but autographed and including a 30 minute DVD and all shipping costs, click here.
