Weta Marine are passionate about showing people what a great sport sailing is.

For the past two years we have organized Sailing Central at the Hutchwilco New Zealand boat show to encourage the wider boating public to check out sailing and hopefully give it a go. The next show is from May 15th to 18th and it promises to be a good one.

23 dinghy classes have signed up so far, from the P Class to the 18 Foot Skiff. The Hartley 16, the Elliot 5.9 and VX One round out the trailer sailors and the Blo Kart association will be here for the first time.

North Sails and Harken New Zealand are also supporting the show and repeating their hoisting game of last year, to add to the Weta Interactive Area. The Disabled Sailing Association will be showing the Hansa and the Skud and will have the boats set up so that people and climb in and get a unique perspective on sailing the Skud, electronics and all.

Yachting New Zealand, Kohimarama Yacht Club and French Bay Yacht club will be on hand to tell people all about how to get into sailing, where to learn and where to go.

To cap it off Weta is giving away a free learn to sail course on the Weta Trimaran in conjunction with Meltemi Beach cats. If your class wants to get in on the action please email miranda@wetamarine.com. You must be a non-profit class association or yacht club to qualify.
